This post covers sales support roles and if you work in such a position then we believe you should consider the following content.
- System skills. Outline the tools that you are utilising in your current role, this will include the client management database which may be an industry name such as Iress or Intelliflo or possibly you use an in-house system. Describe the other tools that you use for research, reviews and quotations such as O&M Profiler or The Exchange. And in this modern world of financial planning you should also mention the WRAPs used in the office.
- Business mix. The financial planning areas you work with will be an excellent guide to any future employer. Do you cover Investments, Pensions, Mortgages and Protection? Then break it down further; do you deal with OIEC, ISA, DFM and IHT or SIPP, Drawdown and Transfers? Is your work all Private Client? If there is some Corporate then break that down to GPP, larger schemes and Group Risk.
- Client mix. Which type of client does your firm work with? You may work with a particular sector or profession or possibly a particular level of client dictated by investable assets or funds under management. Let the reader of your CV get an idea of the clients you are communicating with on a day to day basis.
- Environment. It may be obvious from the company name however do consider mentioning the environment in which you work. For example, are you working in the financial planning arm of an accountancy practice or is your employer best described as a regional firm? Describe the structure of the business and where your role fits in to give an idea of who you liaise with internally.
- Duties and responsibilities is the one that most candidates get right already. Make sure you mention specific duties such as valuations and new business processing and don’t forget to mention the level of client contact you have.
